The World Firefighters Games is a biennial competition where firefighters and their families from all over the world compete in numerous and varied sporting events.

Since its launch, the initiative has been more and more successful and has had a growing socio-economic impact and following. The Games has been running since 1990 and has attracted thousands of athletes and their families from all over the world. This is the 10th Games and previous hosts include big cities like Las Vegas, Sydney and Paris, usually attracting in the region of 5000 competitors. The Games are self-financing and are intended to make a small surplus that is reinvested in local charities.

The Games lasts for a period of seven to ten days staged in a carefully chosen and strategically planned host city. The last Games were held in February 2006 in Hong Kong.

Planning for the World Fire Fighter Games in Liverpool this year is well under way. We expect that about 5000 Fire fighters from around the world will arrive in Liverpool for the Games. With over 70 sports at 50 locations throughout the region these will be the biggest and best Games yet. Previous Games have been held in Sydney, Hong Kong, Las Vegas and Paris so Liverpool in proud to be hosting this 10th Games.

For these Games we have chosen to invite the public to attend and are we making these Games very much part of Liverpool’s capital of Culture year. To achieve this goal we need to recruit a large number of Volunteers. We have already started and up to now the response has been excellent. However we still need more volunteers so I am asking for your help.  All volunteers will receive training and all will be provided with a uniform.

Full information about the Games including dates, times and locations of individual events is available at www.wfg08.com. For the Volunteer registration page, just click on the volunteer tab. Alternatively volunteer registration can be made by telephone at 0870 888 1888
