Why I work for Sports Volunteering North West
Before I worked in Sport Development I was actually a sports volunteer several times without actually realising it. From organising a second team for my mixed hocky club at university to running the squash ladders for my local courts for the last 10 years. There are millions of people like me out there devoting time to their sport and to be able to offer support, training advice to help them improve their experience and even themselves is incredibly important.
The cult of the 'sports volunteer' as opposed to the 'coach', 'official', 'secretary' or any other specific role has been steadily growing over the last few years. As we approach the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games it will increase even more and to be part of a regional organisation dedicated to supporting volunteers needs from a local to strategic level is fantastic.
