Don't 'Dis' ability

The aim of the project is to increase the quality and quantity of sport and physical activity opportunities for children and young people with disabilities and their siblings in Blackburn and Darwen.

We aim to establish a multi-sports club that will operate on a weekly basis in term-time. C&YP will be introduced to a wide range of sports and recreational activities, in a safe and enjoyable environment, led by fully qualified coaches. Where possible, C&YP will be signposted to sport specific clubs in the area to further their skills, for example Lammack Juniors Football Club. In the instance that there is not already an established disability section in a club, or they are not fully inclusive, links will be made to ensure pathways are created, enhanced and fully sustainable.

By linking with other similar clubs in the North West and by sourcing regional Disability Sport competitions, the club will also provide avenues in which its members would be able to compete against other children & young people of similar abilities. The club also aims to become affiliated to Special Olympics to again increase the number of social and competitive opportunities.

The club would also offer support in the form of training/education for volunteers (actively encouraging those with a disability) in return for volunteer hours at the club. Volunteers would be registered on the Millennium Volunteers Programme and be mentored by the club coaches.
