Dave Hewson
Dave is currently Head of Performance and Improvement at Sport England. He is the lead on developing the Regional Plan for Sport and was instrumental in developing the North West on the Move brand and network.
Since graduating from ChesterCollege in 1979 with a degree in Sport Science and Physical Education, Dave has worked in both the public and private sector. He has previously worked in the North West, at St Helens MBC and Blackburn MBC, and also had a seven year period on the other side of the Pennines as Head of Sport with Leeds City Council. During that period, he was invited to sit on the ministerial Task Group that developed the forerunner to the government’s strategy for sport and physical activity: Game Plan.
David is a deputy chair of Governors at a primary school in Leyland and is Chair of the Finance Committee. He is also involved as the coach for Ecclestone Cricket Club and is the junior team organiser at Shaw Hill Golf Club.
As a punishment for something Dave does not yet fully understand, he has been a West Ham supporter since the age of seven and still argues that it was the ‘Hammers’ who won the World Cup back in 1966!!
Dave is celebrating the fact that he has just turned 50.
