Steve Parry
Steve Parry, a natural leader, achieved his lifetime goal of becoming an Olympic Medalist at the Athens Olympics in the summer of 2004.
He competed in the 200m Butterfly, perhaps one of the most hotly contested events of the programme. He was racing against the swimming sensation Michael Phelps, the 18 year old American star. Parry became 1 of only 3 people to ever beat Michael Phelps in his Semi-final swim landing him the centre lane for the final. The final was extremely close and Parry finished in 3rd Place with a new British and Commonwealth Record.
His victory was made ever sweeter by the fact that he missed out on making the team in Atlanta and missed a medal by hundredths of a second in Sydney. His dream was realised in what has been portrayed as one of the great battles in the pool of the Athens games.
