Hands Up for Sports Volunteering Conference 2008

This years 'Hands Up for Sports Volunteering' Conference 2008 took place at the City of Manchester Stadium on the 24th of April and was a huge success.

With over 150 sports volunteers and volunteer managers from across the North West putting their Hands Up, the event provided all with a great blend of workshop sessions and keynotes speakers.

Keynotes from Steve Parry and Andrew Lisgo lead the mornings session, the event got of to a great start!

'Volunteers are absolutley vital to sport. Without them sport wouldn't exist, it's as simple as that!', said Steve Parry.

The 'Hands Up' Marketplace was a busy hive of activity with delegates, Keynote Speakers, Sports Volunteering North West Board Members and event staff investigating a huge range of opportunities for working in the voluntary sector.

All delegates then took part in two workshop sessions with some of the North West's leading experts, on various topics from 'Making the Most out of Higher Education Volunteering', to 'Street Games' and 'Major Events'.

The afternoons keynotes closed with two brilliant and inspiring speeches from Sports Director for the Commonwealth Games Council, Don Parker, and Olympic Gold Medallist Jason Gardener.
