Jason Gardener

Jason Gardener - MBE

31 year old Jason is one of the UK and Europe's all time great sprinters. The 2004 World Indoor Champion; 4 times, and reigning European Indoor 60m Champion, achieved one of his ultimate ambitions in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games by winning Gold in the 4 x 100m relay just months after undergoing an operation to repair a double hernia.

For his services to athletics he was awarded an MBE in the 2005 New Years Honours and has been made an Honorary Freeman of the City of Bath. He can also claim to be a member of the very select sub 10 second club for 100m, having clocked 9.98 seconds for the distance in 1999.

During his 12 year international career, Jason has had to work hard on many occasions to get back to world class shape after injuries and operations caused setbacks. His perseverance and self belief kept him on track, winning championships right into the twilight years of his career. The high regard in which Jason is held was evident at his last outdoor race in the UK, when the vast majority of a capacity Crystal Palace crowd stayed late into the evening to give him a standing ovation, long after the evening athletics had finished.

Jason is a well educated and articulate person and has ambitions to be an astute businessman in the world of sport. He plans to take up marketing and consulting roles for sponsors and sporting bodies, and hopes to work behind the scenes for London 2012. He is keen to maintain his role within athletics, drawing from his experiences of the sport from grass roots to elite level.

Away from the track, Jason (aka the Bath Bullet) has interests including cars, motor racing and photography and is vice president of the Forever Friends Appeal at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. He has a media degree and has appeared on many TV shows including BBC's Blue Peter and A Question of Sport. He has confidence, perseverance and ultimate achievement.
