Red Cross Getting Ready for London 2012

British Red Cross

As the 2008 Olympic Games continue out in Beijing the Red Cross has reported that it has started preparing for London 2012 already.

They are hoping to recruit 6,000 volunteers to help them meet the demands of the London 2012 Olympics.

Marcus Stephan, the Red Cross's operations director for London, said: “The Olympic period will be an extraordinarily busy one for us.

"The Olympic Village in East London is just one part of it.

"The city will be full of visitors, and sports and other events will be taking place all over the city - some planned, but others spontaneous.

"We will be working with London’s emergency services to help ensure everyones safety across London throughout the Games period.”

The Red Cross plans to set-up a high-tech control room to co-ordinate operations during London 2012.

British Red Cross observers are currently in Beijing to learn lessons from that they can apply to 2012.
