Urbanathlon - Volunteers Needed for Manchester Event

Over 1,000 people from across the UK are expected to take part in Europe's first Urbanathlon, an urban foot race, which will be held for the first time in east Manchester on Sunday 13th July.

Diane Modahl, GB Olympic athlete launched the event on 13th March at Sportcity in east Manchester, which is created and run by Sporting Enterprises, Sport 4 Life and supported by Manchester City Council and New East Manchester.

 

The 8K race will start at Sportcity and entrants will tackle 13 urban obstacles such as fording the River Medlock, climbing over cars and negotiating fallen trees.The route will take runners through Clayton Vale and finish in PhilipsPark where local community event Party in the Park will be taking place.

 

The following volunteer roles are needed:

 

General Event Marshalls

These volunteers will be placed along the route of the event to keep members of the public off the race route and to help direct the runners. 

 

Obstacle Marshalls

Working with events staff and obstacle producers in marshalling the obstacles, ensuring the public are kept off the obstacle and dealing with any public enquires.  These areas will be busy with lots of action!!

 

Volunteer will be required to be on the event site at 8.30 am and will be finished by 2pm

 

All volunteers will receive and event T shirts, refreshments and a goody bag.

 

We will be having a briefing meeting at 6pm on Friday 11th July at the indoor athletics centre, SportCity.
