Volunteers Week 2008

Wigan

Volunteers' Week (1-7 June) is the UK's annual celebration of the work volunteers do. During the Week events are held across the country to recognise, reward and recruit volunteers. To find out more about what is happening in your area visit the Volunteers Week website.

To recognise the importance of volunteers in sport we are going to highlight different aspects and experiences of volunteering each day this week.

For Friday we are going to share the vast support network available to volunteers in sport.  To start off with there are the National Governing Bodies of Sport - many of whom have dedicated pages on this website.  The modern NGB has a strong support structure in place for their volunteers as they recognise the importance to keeping the sport going.

Local Authorities in the North West have all recently gone through the process of setting up SPAAs - Sport and Physical Activity Alliances.  Driving through the heart of many of their emerging plans ar volunteers and how to serve them properly.  As we get information through we will post it into the SPAA section of the website.

SVNW also works to link up sport withVolunteer Centres, identifying how they can help each other at a local community level.
