Volunteering in Sefton - Volunteer Centre and Sport links

Volunteer Centre Sefton works with over 300 voluntary and community organisations in Sefton, but we do not have a large number of volunteering opportunities in sports clubs and organisations. This is something we were keen to address as we always have volunteers looking for volunteering opportunities in sport.

As with most voluntary and community sector organisations, sports clubs and organisations are always looking for more volunteers; being invited to attend Sefton Sports Council’s (SSC) bi-monthly meeting to discuss ways of linking Sport and Volunteering more closely together was seen as a way of bridging the gap and developing more effective partnership work.

Our presentation aimed to give a clear overview of the services a Volunteer Centre can offer local sports organisations and demonstrate how each party could benefit from linking in with the other. There was the opportunity for discussion and a question and answer session at the end, which was also very productive.

In terms of linking sport and the broader voluntary sector activity of which Volunteer Centre Sefton is a part, I feel that this has been a successful start and, in conjunction with SSC, I am looking forward to developing this relationship further.
