Mentors
What is a sports volunteer mentor?
A common definition of mentoring is "support, assistance, advocacy or guidance given by one person to another in order to achieve an objective or several objectives over a period of time".
Could you be a mentor?
You need to be willing to offer support and guidance to a person within your club/organisational setting. You will have knowledge about how the organisation operates and want volunteers to become a valued part of your team.
The mentor is a contact point between the County Sport Partnership and the voluntary organisation and can work with a young person to identify training needs, agree personal goals and ensure that the volunteer is happy in their role. Volunteers who have completed the accredited programme are particularly welcome as mentors.
What are the benefits of being a mentor?
- Receive information and training on the role of a volunteer co-ordinator/mentor
- Information on how to effectively manage volunteers
- Mentors often improve their own interpersonal skills and learn different viewpoints from the people they are mentoring
