Amy Brownrigg

Amy contacted Manchester Harriers & Athletics Club through Jill at GreaterSport Millennium Volunteers 12 months ago, while in her last year at Manchester University doing a degree in Sports Management. She also wanted to build up her work related experience and generally remain busy!

After meeting with the MV project coordinator it became clear that Amy was extremely motivated and wanted to build up a wide portfolio of volunteering experience. Over the following few months Amy worked very hard working on updating and professionalising our Club flyers, these give information on the club and our activities within the local community and within Athletics UK wide. These included our Star:track, Sportshall, Club Promotion, Volunteer Recruitment and internal information sheet. She produced some excellent work and worked very hard to assist us.

Amy has also built up a Rankings Database for club records, which includes results from all our 200 members, this was a very time consuming task involving setting up the database inputting details of all our club members one by one, along with all their recent results. Amy continues to work on this still by inputting results when they are sent to her. This means the Club can produce internal rankings, but also match them to the UK ranking and assess where our Athletes are at in their individual training.

In addition to the administrative roles Amy has over the last 12 months helped us to Officiate at many club events. During winter she regularly helped at the Primary Schools Cross Country League (this runs monthly throughout the winter, 6 in total). Amy also came along and helped Officiate with our Field Events in the North of England Track and Field League, assisting the club and helping us provide enough on-the-day officials. In order to further develop in this area Amy is working towards her Level 1Athletics Coaching Award.

She has also helped with our Road Race series and recently helped to Officiate at the Run for Children Fun Run at Bruntwood Park, run by Stockport Education and ourselves, which was very popular with nearly 200 runners in the first year. In May she helped Marshall at the Bupa Manchester 10k spending all day in the rain after helping at the Childrens races the day before, she give up a great deal of her time and the club really do appreciate her help. She has learnt quickly and is invaluable at these events.

All this while completing her last year of her degree. Even now since she has received her degree she still wishes to carry on volunteering with the club, as much as she can around her work commitments. She is very much part of our Club and hope it stays that way.
