Emma Skyner
Emma assists at Ellesmere Port swimming club teaching swimming every week for 2hrs. She also volunteers as a young leader at 1st Childer Thortan Guides every week for between 1 and 2hrs. In addition she takes on the role of finance assistant, organises games activities for the young people and coordinates teams. She also helps out at away trips for the young guides throughout the year, staying away from home.
Emma has shown tremendous commitment to her volunteering and has surpassed all expectations with her sheer determination and passion to improve the quality of sport for others. Not only has she taken on courses such as Good Practice and Child Protection to aide her own personal development, she has taken a course in sign language to communicate with one particular disabled girl with speech & communication difficulties.
She has lead a group of 30 girls on a Brownie & Guide Camp for sports & crafts dealing with issues such as young people missing home, team upsets & general house keeping.
She constantly helps others to get involved in activities & schemes to support children who wouldn’t normally have these opportunities so they can develop their interests, providing them with the encouragement & enthusiasm they need. She regularly attends the young leader meetings in her own time to promote ensure young people are represented in the development of the club and the future members. She is so committed to developing the skills and experiences of others, she has taken on additional roles such as Guide Leader voluntarily.
She even personally supports one disabled individual who struggles with certain activities and needs 1 on 1attention, to positively promote inclusion and equity in all her activities. She remains an active member of the group and is extremely proactive in getting involved and having a go at new activities.
The benefits to her community have been enormous and to certain individuals, she has been instrumental in their involvement and has enabled them to continue to benefit from sport. She has continued to volunteer since attaining her 200hr award.
